Clock, 1765-1775.

Mahogany tall-case clock with works by David Rittenhouse. Hood has broken-scroll pediment with carved rosettes, pierced latticework, central vase & flowers finial, arched hood door, and fluted columns. Waist has fluted quarter columns on front corners. Base has string inlay, on ogee bracket feet. Dial has roman hour numerals and arabic minute numerals, moon phase and two hemispheres in lunette. Eight-day movement.

Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker in Edinburgh and London, Thomas Affleck emigrated to Philadelphia in 1763. His clients included wealthy Philadelphians, some of them fellow Quakers.
